Sugaring (And Waxing)
What is sugaring?
Sugaring is an ancient hair removal technique, originating in Ancient Egypt. This method uses an all-natural paste made of lemon, sugar and water to gently remove hair from the root. The result is smooth skin with hair that grows back thinner over time.
Why choose sugaring over waxing?
-All natural ingredients: Our sugar paste is made with only 3 simple ingredients- sugar, lemon and water- making it 100% organic and free of harsh chemicals that can irritate the skin
-Gentler on the skin: unlike waxing, sugaring removes hair without removing live skin cells. While it naturally exfoliates dead skin cells, it’s much kinder and less abrasive on your skin.
-Mess-Free & Easy Cleanup: sugaring is water soluble, meaning a damp towel is all you need to clean up- no sticky residue left behind!
-Fewer broken hairs: Because the sugar paste is applied in the direction of hair growth, it minimizes the chance of breaking hairs, leaving you with smoother, longer-lasting results.
Pre-Treatment Instructions (wax or sugar)
-gently exfoliate 2-3 days before your appointment. Do not exfoliate the day of your appointment.
-ensure the hair is at least 1/4 - 1/8 of a inch long (or roughly the length of a grain of rice)
-if possible come to your appointment without products (lotion, deoderant, etc.) on your skin
-discontinue retinols and acid-containing skincare products at least 1 week in advance
-wait at least 1 week following any exfoliating treatments (ex. chemical peels, microdermabrasion, etc.)
-wait 1-6 months following the use of Accutane
-we cannot wax or sugar over a sunburn, compromised skin barrier, or active skin infection
-ensure you are well hydrated the day of your appointment. If you are not, it is harder to remove the hair intact and you may experience earlier regrowth
Post-Treatment Instructions
-avoid hottubs, swimming pools and lakes for the first 24 hours
-avoid working out and excessive heat for the first 24 hours
-refrain from sexual activity for 24 hours following a Brazilian
-continue to exfoliate and moisturize the area 2-4x per week, waiting at least 48 hours post wax or sugar to begin gentle exfoliation
-use sun protection as the skin as the freshly exfoliated skin needs to be protected from UV rays
- it is normal to experience red bumps and/or itchiness following hair removal when the hair is removed in its anagen phase. This typically resolves in 24-48 hours with no intervention, but cool compresses or antihistamines can be helpful.
