Dermaplaning FAQ

+ What is it?

Dermaplaning uses a small blade to gently and painlessly remove dead skin cells from the surface of your skin. As a bonus, it also removes the fine vellus hair (or peach fuzz) as well! This results in a super smooth, glowing complexion.

+ Does it hurt?

Not at all! But remember there is a blade involved, so no sudden movements should be made without warning your technician.

+ Why should I get dermaplaning done?

There are so many benefits to this treatment. Exfoliation is a necessary step for healthy skin function. When the dead skin is removed your skin is not only smoother but your facial products will absorb better. Many women love how their makeup goes on after a treatment because there is no light facial hair emphasizing the makeup sitting on your skin. Dermaplaning is a fantastic treatment to have done prior to big events as well.

+ Who shouldn't get dermaplaning done?

Unfortunately, like any cosmetic treatment there are contraindications. Dermaplaning can be performed on men but only above the beard line to and including the forehead. It is not for anyone who has active acne breakouts especially cystic acne lesions. It also cannot be done if you have used Accutane in the past 6 months.

+ Is there downtime after dermaplaning?

Some clients may experience some redness afterwards. Most receiving this treatment will want to go out and show everyone your glowing complexion immediately afterwards! It is recommended to not wear makeup for at least 24 hours.

Make sure to discontinue any retinols and exfoliants a minimum of 1 week prior to your dermaplaning appointment and to avoid for 3-7 days afterwards. Avoid sweating, steam and sun exposure for the first 24 hours. Make sure to wear sunscreen (and reapply every two hours) for 2 weeks after this or any other exfoliating treatment.

Wait 2 weeks after recieving cosmetic injectables to have dermaplaning done

+ What is the difference between the express option and the dermaplaning facial?

The Express is a great option for individuals short on time. It only includes cleansing, dermaplaning, and soothing moisturization. The Dermaplaning facial adds a facial steam for enhanced relaxation, and a soothing jelly mask for extra hydration!
