Platelet Rich Plasma
PRP IS here!
PRP, or platelet rich plasma is a procedure that involves drawing a small amount of your own blood, and processing it to extract the platelets and plasma. This is done by placing the blood sample in a centrifuge, which separates the red blood cells from the plasma and platelets, leaving a sample of highly concentrated platelets, or “platelet rich plasma.”
WHY PRP?
Platelets contain an abundance of growth-factors which are essential for tissue repair and regeneration. These growth factors aid in collagen production, cell growth and the formation of new blood vessels.
Is it safe?
PRP is considered a safe, low-risk treatment. Because it uses your own blood, it is organic and natural, it is typically well-tolerated by your body, with almost no risk of intolerance. Patients may see a little bruising in the injection area, but this should clear up in a few days.
PRP hair restoration is safe for patients who are pregnant, but we always recommend checking with your doctor first. Topical serums for hair loss, like Finasteride and Minoxidil, are not safe for patients who are pregnant, have young children or pets.
Common Uses for PRP:
Hair restoration
Facial/skin rejuvenation (Vampire Facial)
Under eye injections for natural replacement of volume loss
+ How does PRP for hair loss work?
A small amount of your blood is withdrawn and centrifuged, in order to isolate the platelet-rich plasma (PRP). The PRP is then injected into the vascular layer of the scalp in order to provide growth factors to the area and stimulate hair follicles to promote hair regrowth. It is considered an effective non-surgical procedure to reverse hair thinning and stimulate the growth of new hair.
+ How many sessions are needed for optimal results?
An initial series of 3 treatments, spaced about 1 month apart, is necessary for best results. Many patients begin noticing improvements in hair texture, growth and density after a few months. Maintenance sessions, to maintain the hair growth achieved, are recommended every 6-12 months following the initial 3 sessions.
+ What is the downtime after PRP hair restoration treatments?
There is little to no downtime associated with PRP hair restoration treatments. Redness and swelling may occur at the injection site and typically resolve within a day.
+ What is a vampire facial?
A vampire facial involves withdrawing a small amount of your blood, placing it in a centrifuge and extracting the platelet rich plasma, and then using microneedling to deliver the PRP and its growth factors into the dermis of the skin through tiny controlled punctures. This treatment amplified the benefits of traditional microneedling, by adding in the additional PRP growth factors, for even more collagen production and wrinkle fighting power. PRP microneedling can be used to reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, scars, texture, uneven tone, and stretch marks.
